Astonishing App

We have been admirers of this group: https://www.1000hoursoutside.com/ and finally we have a device that allows us to use their app. We purchased this app and it is great. You record your time spent outdoors as well as being able to edit and use features such as a photobook for your adventures during that day. As your hours accumulate you are awarded with a badge. We earned our first one and are motivated to keep going. It costs about 3.49CDN plus tax in the Google PlayShop. Hope you will support this group and join us in this wonderful adventure challenge. Don't forget there are free trackers available for those who prefer a paper version, are in the process of saving, or simply appreciate both methods on the above webpage as well as other goodies. Enjoy your moments and embrace the splendor of nature.

There is a great welcome package when you accept the challenge to download: https://www.1000hoursoutside.com/blog/2022-kick-off-pack-is-here  it helps motivate you to achieve your hours and its free, thank you.

Our progress thus far as the year is concluding (December 2022):

*Since purchasing our app a new package of badges are available to buy, this is our recent accomplishment as of April 2023:

Autumn Volcanoes

With the fall weather happening where we are we were able to learn that in New Zealand on October 5, 2022 a volcano erupted called the Taupo. Also today, October 16, in Stromboli, Italy a volcano has erupted. That got us searching for some other resources to add yo our collection on this topic. We were able to find a listing of volcanoes currently erupting at: https://www.volcanoediscovery.com/erupting_volcanoes.html

Three different types of volcanoes can be created from this source as some labelling sheets: https://www.goodandbeautiful.com/blog/volcanoes/

A rather unique volcanoe can be designed at: https://supersimple.com/article/make-a-volcano/  (it includes dinosaurs and paper towel rolls)

We don't have access to a kitchen however last year we made apple volcanoes with just some brown and white sugar, apples, a cookie sheet, and an oven. A professional receipe is shared: https://lavarenne.com/recipe/volcanic-apples/

*update we recently learnt about a new volcanoe at The Yellow Stone National Park:

Pumpkins in our Patch

Today on our adventure outside exploring our new community we discussed about the seasons and Bear concluded he liked Summer the most while I enjoy Fall. We both enjoy this song: https://youtu.be/JxOMEUYK A very important video can be found at: https://youtu.be/UQjT5uKp2hg which explains why we have seasons. Basically seasons happen because our earth is tilted. As our planet moves around the sun (it takes one year to do so) the part of the earth that is tilted toward the sun will experience summer and while the part of the earth that you live on (Northern Hemisphere vs Southern Hemisphere) is tilted away from the sun you experience winter. When the tilt isn't a complete tilt you have spring and fall weather conditions. There is a free resource on this topic at: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Why-Earth-Has-Seasons-Reading-Comprehension-Worksheet-Seasons-of-the-Year-6899453

We found the most adorable shop along our journey and a truly lovely shop owner who sells some adorable pumpkins. Barron selected some and we made a little desk display along with a favourite book called Pumpkin Pumpkin by Jeane Titherington. There is a lovely video we enjoy each year about Pumpkins however I think Barron is the most perfect pumpkin to pick to have in any patch: https://youtu.be/TJgPEcf5oGs

We found a talented creator who offers a variety of products on pumpkins at an affordable price. We chose this one and you can obtain a copy too for close to 2.00CDN at: https://www.etsy.com/dk-en/listing/1091741814/pumpkin-varieties-mini-lesson?click_key=d80493b4d14bc52979e5a42c84ffe119aedb8036%3A1091741814&click_sum=b86edb21&ga_search_query=pumpkin&ref=shop_items_search_5

We found a lovely pumpkin at the Beaches Fire Station and Barron did a lovely pose:

Along Kingston Rd there was this nicely decorate restaurant:

October Begins with the 5W's +1 H and a review of the Scientific Method

Welcoming October Bear is still doing his monthly moon tracking although we are adjusting and we had to estimate some. We wanted to share our beautiful October moon card in English and Spanish from the following shop (which happens to be having a generous sale at the moment for these cards) https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/ofbeeandbearshop

We revisited the six important parts of a story, and anyway to tackle a new subject or topic, by learning along with this wonderfully detailed video from Jack Hartman: https://youtu.be/6fMTIQvAU5M and this resource from.

We also revisited our knowledge regarding Homophones: two words that aound the same, but they are not spelled the same, this wonderful video was shared on a great person's blog that I have forgotten. It is called Between the Lions: Brian McKnight and Cleo sing "Homophones" viewed: https://youtu.be/3prL9EHifw0o Also we found a lovely free pack, which you can enjoy too when you enroll in the newsletter, by this generous creator: http://www.gradeschoolgiggles.com/free-printables/  Barron did amazing.

There is a great freebie on The Scientific Method from: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Scientific-Method-Poster-Early-Elementary-7575621
