Today is November 11, 2022, our plan was to go downtown to a lovely ceremony the City of Toronto always does, however rain found other plans. Instead we remained silent at 11am and watched a bit of the ceremony from CTV News. We were lucky to find an Outschool class about Rememberance Day in 2020 and Barron has done an activity every year since. We try to recreate the poem In Flanders Field by John McCrae. Barron did a beautiful job creating and designing this piece:
We were also able to obtain some poppies and donated 5.90 to the Royal Canadian Legion. It made us think how it would be nice to make sure everyone has a chance have a poppy, including those in homeless shelters. A copy of the poem is found at: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/47380/in-flanders-fields and the video we watched is a poem recited by Leonard Cohan: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cKoJvHcMLfc and an adorable film called What Have We Learnt by Charlie Brown and Friends: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=12DXCrdf2EI
