One week of school has occurred and Barron has been doing an amazing job with our new school routine. Barron has been working through his regular daily work such as sketching, spelling, chapter a day reading, and refreshing uppercase and lowercase alphabet tracing and writing so we can master that and move onto Cursive writing. Barron completed sheets in his Super Mario Math book -very impressive. We also used our new resource from Amazon which are wooden blocks to help with the subtracting. In the past Barron was encouraged to learn how to use a calculator and now that he has mastered that we are moving onto new skills.
- I Am Cleopatra Level 3 book from Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum series by Brad Meltzer and Christopher Eliopoulos.
- I am Harriet Tubman from Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum series by Brad Meltzer and Christopher Eliopoulos.
- The Story of Barack Obama: A Biography Book for New Readers by Tonya Leslie Illustrated by Loris Lora.
A few days before school began Barron and I planted our Daisy and Calendula seeds we purchased from the 99cent depot store and our bag of soil from Home Depot which only cost $1.97 plus 13% sales tax so $2.24. This is our first gardening experience with our own soil, seeds, and repurposed cup containers. Exciting and liberating to learn a new important skill.
The daisy flowers are doing well and the calendula ones are struggling a bit.
To keep track of the progress we recreated an observation chart from our free download by the sweet webpage which we fill in every couple of days: https://www.pepperandpinemontessori.com/product-page/seed-observation-log
I began and finished reading the entire book of The Vanderbeekers To The Rescue by Karen Yan Glaser, a lovely treat! I have decided to create a vocabulary sheet of words from each book that were unfamiliar to us, two books we read in the summer and the words from this adventure are in the picture below:
We signed out the same book above from the library in hardback edition and placed a note with some seeds to help someone begin a garden and find a kind surprise in their borrowed book. We placed it on a favourite page when the children are told about a sale for garden plants from Orlando from some kind community members, so we felt inspired to do something kind for a stranger in our community.
